NFTs for Good: Enjin Joins the United Nations Global Compact

NFTs for Good: Enjin Joins the United Nations Global Compact
Enjin is committed to the UN Global Compact corporate responsibility initiative and its principles in the areas of human rights, labor, the environment, and anti-corruption.

Blockchain is a dynamic, fast-moving space full of potential, where creators, businesses, and individuals are empowered to evolve and grow.

More than that, it's an industry poised to develop real-time solutions to real-world problems.

Beyond business models and creative opportunity, we believe blockchain and non-fungible tokens (NFTs) are not only the future of digital ownership—they're the future of our entire world.

As a developer of this technology, we also believe it's our responsibility to ensure the future of NFTs is sustainable and equitable for every participant.

With environmental impact at the forefront of the NFT conversation, we've taken essential action by launching a carbon-negative blockchain and joining the Crypto Climate Accord.

We've also begun to explore ways blockchain can be used to support vulnerable communities in a post-pandemic world, alongside the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI).

Today, we're proud to take another step toward a better, blockchain-powered future: Enjin is the first NFT company accepted into the United Nations Global Compact.

“We are excited to work with Enjin to explore how blockchain and NFTs can contribute to the fulfillment of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

While we are struggling to recover from the global pandemic and its impacts, we are experiencing exponential growth of technology, such as AI and blockchain. More than ever, we need to take advantage and harness the potential of these new technologies to ensure that we are better equipped and more united in the future, in order to make our planet a more livable, equitable place for all."

Irakli Beridze, Head of Centre for AI and Robotics, UNICRI, United Nations

Joining the UN Global Compact

The UN Global Compact is the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative.

Its framework was adopted by former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan in August 2005, forming a global movement that now includes more than 13,000 companies in over 170 countries.

The Global Compact mobilizes companies to establish strategies and operations aligned with the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact, which relate to pressing issues in the areas of human rights, labor, environment, and anti-corruption.

As a Global Compact Participant, we are prepared to actively pursue solutions to these problems through blockchain technology, with a focus on positive environmental and societal change.

In fact, we've already kicked off these efforts in support of Principle 9, which promotes “the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies.”

We've made strides in decarbonizing NFTs by making JumpNet carbon-negative, and as we continue to build our ecosystem and Efinity, we remain committed to offering a one-stop NFT solution for conscious creators.

“Joining the UN Global Compact reaffirms our commitment to improving people’s lives through blockchain technology, and will ensure these efforts are sustainable, focused, and optimized while holding us accountable to the public along the way.”

— Maxim Blagov, Enjin CEO

At Enjin, we believe NFTs are for everyone—and that they can be used to improve the lives of everyone, too.

Permissionless access to NFT markets is already helping eliminate the inequality of opportunity between different nations, empowering worldwide creators to compete on equal footing.

Through our membership, we are eager to explore novel new ways of utilizing NFTs to carry out the UN’s missions of sustainability and equality through its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which aim to unite stakeholders to end extreme poverty, fight inequality and injustice, and protect our planet.

We look forward to engaging with follow stakeholders and participating in events to engage in dialogue, problem-solve, and identify opportunities for future collaborations.

The 17 SDGs are at the heart of "Agenda 2030,” a plan of action to ensure that all human beings can fulfill their potential in dignity and equality in a healthy, peaceful environment.

“With less than 10 years left to meet the UN's 2030 Agenda on sustainable development, technology plays an important role that can help us reach the global goals faster and contribute to a more prosperous and sustainable world in 2030.

We warmly welcome Enjin to the United Nations Global Compact and look forward to working alongside them to take decisive action for the SDGs.”

— Esther Chang, Executive Director of Global Compact Network Singapore

At the forefront of disruptive technology, we must always consider its impact.

We look forward to aligning our ecosystem and business operations with the UN Global Compact and creating a future that empowers everyone, everywhere through NFTs.
