Age of Rust

Age of Rust began as a passion project by a single developer, quickly evolving into one of the most highly anticipated blockchain games in the space.

In 2016, it started as a dark noir text adventure game set in a sci-fi dystopian universe.

This turn-based role-playing game allowed players to embark on an adventure alone or with friends, drawing inspiration from famous treasure hunt stories such as "Ready Player One" and "Fenn's Treasure."

In January 2018, the beta version of the text adventure game, referred to as "SpacePirate Text Adventure," was released, containing a 4 BTC prize and further expanding the Age of Rust story.

Transition to a 3D Experience and Partnership with Enjin

In April 2018, the developers of Age of Rust decided to elevate the gaming experience by moving the game to a 3D version while preserving the rich narrative from the Alpha and Beta releases.

Around the same time, they chose to shift the in-game assets from the Counterparty Protocol to the Ethereum blockchain, leveraging Enjin's superior technology, including the Enjin Wallet, ERC-1155 tokens, multiverse items, and token backing.

Age of Rust joined the Early Adopters Program from Enjin in 2018, solidifying its place as a trailblazing blockchain game.

NFT Treasures and Crypto Bounties

Age of Rust will launch with 3 seasons, offering a total of 100 hours of story-driven gameplay. The 20 BTC grand prize will be discovered in the 3rd season, with another 4 BTC and 35,000+ other bounties and NFT treasures to be found along the way.

Pioneering the First Gaming Multiverse

In August 2018, Age of Rust partnered with Enjin and five other games to create the world's first gaming multiverse, connecting their in-game worlds through blockchain technology and ERC-1155 assets.

This historic collaboration laid the groundwork for unprecedented interconnectedness within the gaming industry.

Battling Steam and Allying with Epic Games

Despite its early success, Age of Rust encountered a significant obstacle when Steam announced a ban on all Web3 games from its platform in November 2021, citing concerns over game items with real-world value.

In response, the game's developers sought new avenues for growth, ultimately finding support from Epic Games, which embraced blockchain technology and NFTs on its platform.

In March 2024, the Epic Games Store added 20 new NFT and blockchain games, including Age of Rust, fostering a supportive environment for the continued development of the blockchain gaming sector.
