Cede: Building a Greener Metaverse through Combat Farming

Cede: Building a Greener Metaverse through Combat Farming
In this blog, we examine how gaming can be utilized to make farming fun, promoting a greener future.

Imagine a world where farming can be fun, rewarding, and impactful. Cede is on a mission to achieve this dream – by allowing players to experience the joy of sustainable farming through combat farming in the metaverse.

Players will be able to nurture and harvest crops as they battle their way through the metaverse, while learning lessons of conservation and sustainability and also being rewarded with NFTs as they progress. By equipping these rewards in their load-outs, they can customize and personalize their experience with colorful visuals, animations, and more.

Cede is also building a physical-virtual reality infrastructure – with the goal of creating global farms that allow people to reap the real-world benefits of self-sufficient farming.

Eddie Winback is leading the charge with Cede, and his ultimate goal is to educate people on sustainable agriculture through the blockchain. He believes that modern NFT gaming has the power to drive a positive environmental impact, and that with the right tools and resources, people can learn to be self-sufficient while being rewarded for their efforts.

The Genesis of Cede

Winback's story starts in 2013 when he embraced a vegan diet and realized the importance of growing his own food. When COVID-19 hit, he saw a chance to educate people about health and sustainability through gaming.

The game is also dedicated to Winback's late aunt Donna, who inspired the main character Joseph, a farmer who saves Egypt from famine.

Into The Game

It starts with "The Fall" - a cataclysmic event that shattered the planet into pieces and plunged it into chaos. Players must build their own farming empire from scratch, by growing their own crops and harvesting them to gain resources. The more they harvest, the more territory they can claim – and in doing so, progress through the game.

Players will also be able to battle life forms and create their own plants (called “changers”) while cultivating their own gardens. With three additional friends, they can join forces to battle against enemies and create the best possible loadouts for optimal changer benefits.

To collect loot, they must make their way through the metaverse. Every world has its own set of rules and objectives that must be met in order to progress. Along the way, they will be rewarded with NFTs that can be used to customize their own character and loadouts. With each piece of loot they collect, the potential to grow and fortify their own personal hub farm increases.

The roadmap consists of bringing their vision to console, with plans for a PVP mode. This will allow players from all over the world to compete in an epic battle to the death. If they’re looking for even more competition, Cede is planning tournaments where players can show off their skills and rewards for top placements.

Sustaining Cede for Sustainability

Barehand Games, the team behind the project, is looking to bring Cede's ambitious vision to life by utilizing a combination of grants, venture capital investments, and traditional crowdfunding. Cede is their first release, and they are looking to utilize their success as a platform to build other games and support sustainable living practices.

Enjin, a blockchain-based gaming platform, is also an important ally. Enjin welcomed Cede into its ecosystem in 2020, allowing players to store their ERC-1155 NFTs in an Enjin wallet and trade them on the EnjinX marketplace. This allows for more secure transactions and better protection of assets, as well as more freedom in how Cede's items are used.

Enjin is also helping to build the foundation of Efinity, the cutting-edge blockchain for NFTs that is set to revolutionize the gaming industry. Cede will be releasing some QR-enabled Beams on Efinity, which will allow for even faster transactions and a more secure way to store NFTs.

Not only that, but Efinity is also a sustainable, green blockchain developed for Polkadot. Polkadot is a carbon-conscious protocol, using the equivalent of only 6.6 US households worth of energy per year – far less than other protocols. This makes Efinity the perfect home for Cede, which aims to reduce its own carbon footprint and promote more sustainable lifestyles.

Cede is more than just a game to Barehand Games and Winback. It's an interactive platform for sustainable farming practices that can help us all make a difference for the planet. One farm and NFT at a time.
