The Enjin Blockchain "Bugis" Upgrade is set to roll out in two phases: February 24, 2025, for Enjin Relaychain v1.5.0, and March 24, 2025, for Enjin Matrixchain v1.2.0.
This update introduces significant enhancements, boosting Matrixchain speed by 100% by reducing block time from 12 seconds to 6 seconds. Additionally, new features in the Marketplace pallet and various quality-of-life improvements will enhance the overall user experience.
Why "Bugis"?
Named after one of Singapore’s most dynamic and culturally rich districts, the Bugis upgrade reflects Enjin’s commitment to innovation and continuous evolution.
Key Highlights of the Bugis Upgrade
- Faster Transactions: Matrixchain’s block time is now reduced from 12s to 6s, making transactions and minting twice as fast.
- Token Groups: Improved organization by allowing collections to be structured into token groups.
- Lazy Migrations: Seamless blockchain storage migrations without requiring downtime.
- Multiple Royalty Beneficiaries: Collection and token owners can now set multiple beneficiaries for royalty distributions.
- Whitelisted Buyer Lists: Marketplace listings can be whitelisted for up to 10,000 addresses, with optional quantity controls for how much each address can purchase.
- Listing Start Dates: Sellers can set specific start times for their marketplace listings.
- Enhanced Unbonding Limits: Up to 32 simultaneous unbonding events for more flexibility in ENJ staking.

Upgrade Timeline & Expected Downtime
- Enjin Relaychain Mainnet: February 24, 2025, at 16:00 UTC (Block 9098986)
- Enjin Matrixchain Mainnet: March 24, 2025, at 18:45 UTC (Block 4017535)
Expected durations: Relaychain - 5 minutes, Matrixchain - 1 hour. During the upgrade, both networks will pause new extrinsics. A 10-minute buffer before and after the upgrade window is advised.

Important Notices
- Enjin Wallet: Transactions will be paused during upgrade windows (5 minutes for Relaychain, 15 minutes for Matrixchain). Ensure you update to the latest app version for full compatibility.
- NFT.io: Maintenance mode will be enabled during the Matrixchain upgrade (approx. 15 minutes), with full support for the new mainnet changes.
- Node Operators: Please update to v1.5.0 for Relaychain and v1.2.0 for Matrixchain following our documentation.
- Enjin Platform Users: Self-hosted users should upgrade to v2.3.0. No action is required for Enjin Platform Cloud users.
